Q: What is on your reading list?
A: Professionally? Furniture Today, CNET, Computer World. Personally? The Dead Key, The Girl on the Train currently. I am an avid reader. I love drama’s, but also enjoy an occasional romance novel as a pallet cleanse.
Q: What challenges do you face as a woman in the IT industry?
A: Women in technology are definitely in the minority, so when attending networking events and technology conferences, I am often the sole female or one of only a handful. We are missing out on the power of having both the right brain and left brain developing innovative solutions. My male to female applicants ratio for highly skilled / technical positions is currently about 10:1. I feel fortunate and blessed to have been recognized for my efforts during my career in technology, but I have witnessed it be more difficult for women to be promoted in technology than for men.
Q: What websites do you visit on a daily basis?
A: Facebook, CNET, Computer World, CNN, and WOWT.
Q: What quote inspires you most?
A: I am a big fan of motivational quotes and review and use them daily, but I think my go to is this one, by Og Mandino. It’s been my mantra throughout my life and a value I’ve passed on to my children: “Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.”
Q: What was your first job?
A: McDonalds – I worked there from age 15 – 20.
Q: Do you have any advice for women thinking of entering the technical industry?
A: Do not take no for an answer. Set aggressive goals and pursue them with a vengeance!
Q: What do you love most about WiTH?
A: I have met so many amazing professional women and have learned something from all of them! I have been blessed to make a lot of new friendships too! It is an amazing networking event every month!
